Fan Photo: Going Aloft in Morro Bay
The photos from Morro Bay are pouring in! Here's one of a member of Lady Washington's crew going aloft. The crew member is near the center of the image, just left of the mast. The photo comes from guest Kathy Oster. We'd love to see your photos of crew going aloft. Send images to photos@historicalseaport.org.

Longtime volunteer Ken Adamson has died
Everyone was saddened to learn of the passing of Ken Adamson last week. Ken was one of the first volunteers on the Lady Washington project, and he was a charter member of the original "Ancient Mariners" volunteer group. Ken volunteered at the Historical Seaport from 1986 into 2011, when his health restricted his activities. Over the 25 years that he served the Seaport, he built, restored and purchased many pieces of equipment that we continue to use today. The upper photo shows Ken driving a drift bolt into the hull of Lady Washington during her construction. The lower photo shows Ken milling planking for the ship.
A memorial service is planned for Ken at the Bethany Baptist Church in Satsop, Wash. at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 26th. If you have any memories or photos to share of Ken, we'd like to hear about them. Send your thoughts to ghhsa_admin@historicalseaport.org, and we'll pass them along to family and friends.

Sacramento Laundry Donates Washer to HC
You may have heard that Hawaiian Chieftain was in dire need of a new washing machine for keeping the hardworking crew's clothing neat and clean. A Sacramento-area laundromat came through for us, after a bit of help from the local media. Our development officer, Jan Jorgenson, called the Sacramento CBS affiliate and suggested that the broken washing machine might make a fun story. Ashley Williams, a reporter at Channel 13 who works on the Good Day Sacramento program, contacted Debbie Dower, co-owner of Paradise Laundry in Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento.
Dower says she was immediately taken by the idea of helping Hawaiian Chieftain after learning that the ship was built in Maui, which she says is "one of my favorite places" and the inspiration for her business' name. She made a couple of calls to suppliers and found a good refurbished Frigidaire washer with the same footprint as the Hawaiian Chieftain's broken washer. It was delivered to the boat, and brought aboard Sunday morning, with the cameras of Good Day Sacramento looking on. In the screenshot from the television report, Capt. JB Morrison (foreground in the hat) supervises bringing aboard Hawaiian Chieftain a newly donated washing machine.
Thanks so much to Paradise Laundry and Good Day Sacramento for their generosity and help!
